With craftsmanship at its core, MKD Development stays grounded in what matters most

Established by Moses Fram in 2017, MKD Development has taken center stage as Michigan’s leading custom homebuilder. Focused on high-end home designs, the company is built on a commitment to building – and being – the very best.

Moses’ journey began nearly ten years ago. Having worked as a commercial contractor for many years, he decided it was time to try something new. With a desire to be his own boss and forge his own path, Moses started work on what would soon become MKD Development: “I knew I no longer wanted to work for other people, so I just went ahead and did it on my own,” he begins. “I took the classes, got my license, and with that our journey began.

“Just under a year later, I started MKD Development. In the beginning, we worked primarily in the commercial property space. Because I own and manage several industrial spaces across Michigan, I was able to maintain my investments while getting the construction business off the ground.”

Extensive range

Moses continues to expand on the evolution of MKD. “We spent a year or so working on renovations and remodels before venturing into custom homebuilding. Working on bespoke properties is something I’ve always wanted to do. My original vision was to remain a commercial contractor and work on a few homes here and there, when the opportunity presented itself.

“But as soon as we started work on our first major home project, a 10,000-square-foot new-build, I knew I wanted MKD Development to specialize in custom houses. There have been challenges to overcome along the way, we had to take a break during the pandemic, for example, but we’ve come back stronger each time.”

Following the forced shutdowns of 2020, MKD Development quickly kicked back into gear and was able to complete three milestone projects by the end of 2023. Today, the company continues to thrive in the custom homebuilding space, taking on exciting new projects and remaining responsive to market trends.

One way MKD Development sustains its success is through aesthetic and structural diversity. As Moses explains: “We can build anything. From clean, contemporary homes to intricate, traditional structures, our range has always been extensive.

“We’ve also built residences inspired by European architecture, particularly Italian and French designs, which reflect a strong cultural influence in our region. Some of my favorite projects have emulated the old French Colonial Manor-style.

“We work hard to replicate not only the aesthetic elements of European architecture, but also the material components. We use traditional brick compositions and bonds to achieve an authentic final product.

“In terms of our service offering, we can do as much or as little as the client requires. Sometimes we’ll be working on remodels or additions, other projects require design and build support from the ground up. We approach each one with enthusiasm and a fresh outlook.”

People-centric approach

Allowing the client’s vision to guide every step of the building process, MKD Development creates deeply personalized spaces. As Moses explains: “We always put people at the center of the work we do. A home should be a true reflection of the people living in it.

“The business is also very personal to me and my family. My wife Jessica oversees most of our in-house design work. She has an exceptional eye for aesthetics and chooses furnishings that bring each home together.

“She also selects most of the tiling, paints, and floor finishes we use, as well as different kinds of marble and quartz for countertops and cabinetry. Our clients quickly come to rely on her expertise to bring their vision to life.”

Taking a people-centric approach allows MKD Development to stand apart from the competition. Moses and his team create a homebuilding process guided entirely by a commitment to bringing each client’s vision to life at the highest standard.

As he notes: “Many homebuilders are primarily motivated by profit. Of course, that’s important, especially if we want to continue doing what we love, but we’ve found that by focusing on doing a great job and realizing the client’s vision, everything else naturally falls into place.”

Bright future

Maintaining the balance between traditional values and innovative design can be a challenge. Moses reflects on some further obstacles that the business has had to negotiate. “For a while, we struggled to bring in new talent. Homebuilding didn’t seem to appeal to young people, and throughout 2023 and 2024, finding the right team members required real effort. The work stopped being as fun as it once was.

“But in 2025 it started to feel fun again. The rise of AI has been a culture-shifting force. Many workers worry about their jobs being replaced, but AI can’t swing a hammer. It can’t envision a space from the inside. It can’t build something from the ground up with its own two hands.

“In 2025, we saw many more young men and women showing interest in learning the trades, and I hope that trend continues into 2026. I would love to see the economy stabilize and offer hope to the tradespeople of tomorrow.

“There’s a bright future in the trades. We need electricians, plumbers, carpenters – talent across every discipline. MKD Development’s path forward is as much in their hands as it is in ours – and together, we’ll build what comes next,” he concludes.
