Through hard work and immeasurable passion, McCloskey Builders evolved from small beginnings to a luxury leader
Known for unparalleled quality, exceptional service, and cutting-edge design, McCloskey Builders has been delighting its clients since 1987. Since its founding nearly 40 years ago, the company has grown from humble beginnings into a trusted name in custom homes, upscale renovations, and commercial construction, while remaining grounded in the core values of hard work, perseverance, and grit that shaped its early success.

“This company didn’t start out as a luxury homebuilder,” begins Sam McCloskey II, Project Manager (Business Development). “My father started the company in 1987. The business initially started with a small crew doing odds-and-ends type jobs, such as small renovations, home repairs, and small-scale commercial work. There were lots of ups and downs throughout the years – lots of long days from the family and employees that got the company in the position it is today.
“As time went on, however, the company grew into what we are today: a high-end, luxury homebuilder that’s still family owned and operated, with over 200 years of combined experience,” he says. “The family’s hard work and dedication throughout the decades has given us lots of opportunities to work on really cool, high-end projects.”
A truly people-centric business, McCloskey Builders is committed to building lasting relationships, collaborating with clients to create spaces that reflect their specific vision while exceeding expectations every step of the way. From the first consultation to the final walkthrough, clients enjoy direct communication and personalized service throughout and even after the entire construction process, and Sam credits this shared passion to the close-knit, family-oriented culture that the business has cultivated.
“We have a lot of pride in our family’s name being on the truck, but we also have a lot of long-term employees and longstanding subcontractors who feel like part of our family. Furthermore, we would be nowhere without the commitment and talent of our subcontractors. Some of these subcontractors have been on homes with us for 15 plus years – our plumbers and electricians to name a few. I think the family dynamic is our strong suit,” he elaborates. “There’s a lot of after-hours commitment which is what it ultimately takes to complete projects of this caliber.”
Further growth
With the business having grown organically through passion and dedication, the next generation is dedicated to carrying forward the commitment level of the first-generation who built the foundations of McCloskey Builders. “As the company’s next wave, our goal is to continue our standard of luxury as we further grow the business. We’re focused on maintaining the relationships that have already been built by the first generation,” Sam emphasizes.
“Another goal is to really expand our social media presence. I think that, even though we’re not in a big market like New York City or Miami, we believe that we have the team and the skill that could build homes in those larger markets. We feel that taking our social media and website to the next level will open up opportunities for people from larger markets to see our finished work.
Creating spaces
As McCloskey Builders continues to expand its horizons, the company is excited to take on new projects with clients both old and new. With its breadth of technical expertise, each of the company’s homes offers the perfect balance of elegance, functionality, and individuality, expertly tailored to the unique interests of each client. One of McCloskey Builders’ recent projects – a southern-style home – showcases this philosophy.
“This home is very Texas-inspired, with the classic white brick and limestone features that you see in southern neighborhoods,” Sam shares. “On the interior, we’ve used a lot of white oaks and playful white colors and wallpaper features that you could definitely pull from the South, or even the European countryside, which really ties everything together. Large expansive windows – spanning from floor to ceiling – bring lots of natural light into big homes such as this one, which is 10,000 square feet.”

Using similar design features, McCloskey Builders is also currently working on an organic modern home – a project that effectively juxtaposes natural shapes and textures with standout fixtures and finishes. “We’re still working on this home at present,” Sam confirms. “The home uses lots of natural features and finishes, such as limestone tiled walls and flooring. There are four fireplaces in the house, each with its own stone features; for example, one has a black Calcutta marble backdrop, while another has a natural raked limestone backdrop.
“On top of that, all of the walls in the house are either Roman clay or limewash to give those natural pastels. We put no trim casing around the windows or doors; everything is drywall-wrapped with no base on the floor, so there are a lot of natural curved corners and edges. The style is simple in a sense – the color palette is very neutral and earthy – but every room has features that pop.”
While this organic modern home showcases McCloskey Builders’ ability to create calm, understated spaces rooted in natural materials, the team’s versatility extends far beyond muted palettes. At the opposite end of the design spectrum, another recent project embraces bold color, expressive finishes, and an unmistakably eclectic personality.
“We recently worked on a really fun, new century modern house. The home is very eccentric – around 6000 square feet built on an old orchard farm – and carries a true boutique feel, with vibrant colors, layered textures, and elevated details in the carpentry,” Sam describes. “The designer is very much into fun color schemes, so it was definitely one of the spunkier houses that we’ve done. The house combines a mix of rich wood tones with bold color in the cabinetry, which brings contrast and depth to the space. There is some color-drenching in this house: there was a room or two where we did an immersive wash of one color, but in different shades to give off a ‘moody’ feel. There are also lots of different wallpaper features in the house that give some tropical influence. It just goes to show that we’re able to take on whatever style our owners are looking for.”
Upward trajectory
From timeless, understated homes to bold, design-led residences, McCloskey Builders continues to demonstrate the versatility, craftsmanship, and client-focused approach that have defined the company for nearly four decades. As the second generation builds on the strong foundations established in 1987, the family-owned business is well-positioned to deliver exceptional homes while expanding its reach into new markets.
“In five years’ time, we hope to be maintaining our upward trajectory in terms of luxury: increasing the size of the company while upholding that high-level finish, perhaps even doubling the capacity to be able to work on four large-scale homes at one time. We typically work on two large-scale homes a year at this juncture,” Sam affirms. “I’d like people to view us as the custom builder in our area, not just custom homebuilder – that if they’re looking for an upscale luxury feel, we can provide the right custom solutions, no matter the project.” www.mccloskeybuilders.com
