Leveraging cutting-edge technology, Trinity Custom Homes builds exquisite and highly functional waterfront homes
Based in Sarasota, Florida, Trinity Custom Homes (Trinity) is a premier luxury home builder, constructing dream homes for clients since 2010. The company stands proudly on four core pillars: integrity, transparency, organization, and quality. Trinity strives to build trust and forge lasting relationships with its customers through these values. Kyle Haughey, Vice President, talks us through the company’s inception.
“When Mike Cocozza founded Trinity in 2010, he focused on building and transforming luxury custom waterfront homes. His roots in construction come from working with his father, Bob Cocozza, who was a self-performing contractor in Sarasota for over 30 years. With his experience in finish carpentry, masonry, and framing, Mike was empowered to establish his own carpentry company and framed many luxury homes for contractors in the area, who are now our competitors. Seeing firsthand what those contractors did well and not so well prompted Mike to strive for excellence and do it better as a true luxury builder.
Firm foundations
“Many homeowners have reported challenging experiences with contractors and navigating the construction process, so we strive to make the homebuilding experience better than what other builders offer in the area. While it sometimes can be a very generic word, communication is at the heart of our approach, and we over-communicate with clients about every detail through meetings, confirmation emails, and signed-off approvals. Rather than an impersonal, corporate approach, we foster a friendly homebuilding process, forming genuine relationships with our clients. Our vision is to take care of our customers and make the custom building process an enjoyable and positive experience, not just delivering a high-quality end product,” he expands.
Efficient communication with clients is just one aspect of Trinity’s company culture, underscored by a people-first mindset. Kyle shares more about how this approach influences the company’s operations. “Our people-first mindset prioritizes strong relationships, open and honest communication, and trust with our clients and team. I believe that most problems, whether at work or in personal life, are due to poor communication or a lack thereof. Thus, the people-first mindset is about understanding each client’s unique needs and vision, ensuring they feel heard and valued while caring for them as if they were family members.
“This approach extends to our work environment, where we foster collaboration and respect among our staff and partners. Our people have a true passion for what they do, and we encourage them to explore their interests in construction and business operations. I believe we have created a team that has fully adopted the core pillars that form the company’s foundation. Ultimately, our people-first mindset enhances our ability to deliver high-quality, personalized results, making the entire experience more rewarding for everyone involved,” he explains.
Design difference
Kyle then discusses Casa Encanto, a Trinity project currently under construction. “Overlooking downtown Sarasota, Casa Encanto is a waterfront home on Sarasota Bay. It is truly unique because the master suite is a giant cube that sits on top of the house, cantilevering over the rear of the building and extending over the pool area, offering stunning water views. The master suite features massive, nearly two-inch thick, full-panel glass windows – the largest sheets of glass available in the world – which cost $2 million and are breathtaking.
“Furthermore, the sliding glass doors leading to the rear of the house are automated with belt-driven gear in the header above, so they open with the press of a button. While it is a very modern house, Casa Encanto’s interior features gas lighting, consisting of modern, wall-mounted fixtures with a helical light flame. It also has a full glass elevator, where even the elevator shaft is made of glass, offering unobstructed views. We have other large waterfront properties with many details that are simply stunning, but I think that Casa Encanto, with its unique materials and design, stands out from the rest,” he adds.
Streamlined process
Similarly, Trinity is involved in another exciting development that Kyle is particularly enthusiastic about. “We are working on a project on Big Pass, a major Sarasota waterway. The house spans approximately 6000 square feet, with an additional 4000 square feet of outdoor space. It is a solid concrete structure that sits on an acre of land on the water, and it boasts high-end finishes, high ceilings, and a modern design. Moreover, the sawtooth floating stair structure that goes up four stories to a 1600-square-foot open terrace overlooking Sarasota Bay, Bird Key, downtown, and the Ringling Bridge has unmatched views. I believe that the images do not do justice to the sheer scale of this house. When you see it in person, it is massive, and the transition from indoor to outdoor space is so grand that it is hard to translate it into pictures,” he expresses.
To aid the homebuilding process, Trinity extensively uses 3D modeling, a unique practice that has yet to be commonplace in the industry, according to Kyle. “3D models are critical to our building process because they enable us to plan and visualize each project before construction begins. Although creating 3D models is time-intensive and requires significant skill, we believe it sets us apart in the marketplace, allowing us to build some of the area’s most unique and complex homes. Indeed, by combining the architect’s and engineers’ plans to construct the properties virtually, we can assess their buildability early on. Additionally, 3D models help clients visualize and better understand how their home will look. Using the Trimble RI total station robot, we can transfer the 3D model into a precise layout on the construction site, allowing us to detect and resolve potential issues early and ensuring a streamlined, accurate, and efficient building process,” he ends.
