Inside Werning Construction’s boutique approach to luxury coastal homebuilding

Based in Southwest Florida, Werning Construction (Werning) is a family-owned luxury custom home builder specializing in high-end residences throughout Marco Island, Naples, and the surrounding waterfront communities. Founded by Brandon Werning, the company was built on a simple but uncompromising philosophy: craftmanship first, relationships always, and never cutting corners, especially on what lies beneath the surface.

Werning has built a reputation for creating homes that are not only visually striking but thoughtfully engineered. Today, Werning Construction continues to operate as a closely involved family business, personally overseeing every phase of the build process to ensure each home reflects the client’s vision while meeting the highest standards of quality, longevity, and coastal resilience.

Personal approach

President Brandon Werning joins us to elaborate on the company’s full-service, concierge-level custom home building experience. “We guide clients seamlessly through the entire process, from initial concept to final walkthrough and beyond,” Brandon begins. “Our services begin with pre-construction planning, where we assist with budgeting, lot evaluations, architectural coordination, engineering consultation, and constructability reviews to ensure every home is thoughtfully designed for both beauty and coastal performance.

“In addition to new construction, we offer major renovations, additions, and whole home transformations for clients seeking to elevate existing properties,” he adds. “From land development and permitting to final design execution, our team provides hands-on project management, transparent communication, and meticulous quality control, delivering homes that are as structurally exceptional as they are visually timeless.”

However, what truly distinguishes Werning is the rare balance between elevated design sensibility and uncompromising structural integrity. “While many builders focus on finishes, we begin beneath the surface, engineering each home to exceed coastal performance standards before a single visual detail is introduced,” Brandon explains. “Our team is involved early in the design process, providing constructability reviews, budget alignments, material guidance, and structural optimization to help refine plans before permitting. This ensures efficiency, longevity, and value without compromising architectural intent.

“Equally important is our boutique, highly personal approach. We limit the number of homes we build at any given time, allowing for hands-on involvement, direct communication, and meticulous oversight throughout the entire process. Clients work directly with the builder rather than layers of project managers, which ensures transparency, accountability, and a truly tailored experience. Above all, our reputation has been built on trust, craftsmanship and long-term term relationships. Many of our clients become repeat clients and referrals, reflecting both the quality of our work and the care we bring to every build.”

To highlight Werning’s capabilities, Brandon shares details about a recently completed home in the Isles of Capri. “This home represents a true evolution of our coastal design language, blending refined architectural details with some of the most advanced infrastructure systems we’ve implemented to date,” he states. “Structurally, the home was engineered specifically for its proximity to the waterways. It features a HOOT wastewater treatment system, underground storm water retention, fully concealed utility infrastructure, elevated foundations, and hurricane rated construction. The exterior composition is grounded in timeless coastal architecture, featuring standing seam metal roofing, wide roof overhands, deep porches, and layered massing that gives the home a stately yet relaxed waterfront presence.

“Inside, ceilings become architectural features with tray and beam detailed ceilings, tongue and groove paneling, and soft natural wood tones introducing warmth and dimension without compromising the clean coastal palate. Defined by statement custom wood vent hoods, integrated cabinetry walls, and carefully layered lighting with a hidden custom butler’s pantry, the kitchen serves as a central architectural anchor, creating a space that feels both sculptural and highly functional. Throughout the interior, custom millwork, wide plank flooring, and expansive window walls reinforce the home’s open, airy feel while framing long water views and allowing natural light to shape the living spaces.”

Client experience

Werning is also currently working on an impressive home known as the Giralda project, and its design is a bold expression of modern coastal architecture. “The exterior presents a striking, gallery-like façade defined by crisp linear massing, floor to ceiling glass, smooth stucco volumes, and a symmetrical vertical entry tower that immediately establishes architectural presence,” Brandon says. “Large window walls flood the interior with natural light while creating strong visual alignment between indoor spaces and the surrounding landscape.

“On the inside, a dramatic floating staircase serves as a sculptural centerpiece, framed by two-story glass illuminated treads and warm vertical wood paneling with integrated backlighting. The ceilings throughout the home are intentionally layered, incorporating recessed coves, floating planes, and linear lighting that create soft dimension while maintaining the homes clean contemporary lines. Custom millwork is seamlessly integrated into the architecture from built in media walls and concealed storage to floor to ceiling cabinetry and curated display niches- ensuring every plane feels intentional.”

These projects showcase Werning’s commitment to strong relationships, exceptional craftsmanship, and thoughtful engineering, which will undoubtedly continue to shape the company’s growth moving forwards. Looking ahead, Brandon shares that his vision for Werning’s future remains centered on intentional growth, elevated design, and continued refinement of client experience.

“We want to maintain the boutique nature of our firm while carefully expanding our footprint across Naples, Marco Island, and the surrounding waterfront communities,” he says. “Client experience is at the core of everything we do, and we’re investing in even more refined preconstruction planning, enhanced design collaboration, and streamlined project communication to ensure clarity, transparency, and confidence throughout the entire building process.

“In the longer term, we envision Werning as one of Southwest Florida’s most recognized and respected boutique luxury builders. Our success will not be measured by how many homes we build but for our architectural distinction, structural integrity, and unmatched client experience. Our goal is to have a portfolio of landmark residences across Naples, Marco Island, the Isles of Capri, and the surrounding waterfront communities. We want our homes to be instantly recognizable for their refined coastal contemporary and modern design language.”

Brandon concludes: “Most importantly we see our homes continuing to serve as legacy residences, holding long term value, architectural relevance, and emotional significance for the families who live in them.”
