Founded just over six years ago, DeMir Homes is a family-owned and operated luxury homebuilder based in Central Iowa. Launched by Owner and President Ernad Muratovic alongside his father, Jusmir Muratovic, this father-and-son have transformed their early dreams and ideas into reality.
Since 2019, DeMir Homes has built an expansive portfolio of exceptionally crafted custom homes. Each project is shaped by the client’s vision and designed to last a lifetime. The company also maintains a focus on environmentally conscious construction wherever possible, carefully balancing sustainability and style.
Alongside homebuilding, the business works in both the public and private sectors. As Ernad reveals, it has partnered with the State of Iowa on several projects. “We’re happy to go where the client needs us,” Ernad opens. “A lot of our success comes down to flexibility, as we’re willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill the client’s vision.”
Family experience
The business benefits from more than three decades of combined construction experience between Ernad and his father. Combining Ernad’s wealth of knowledge and people-first approach with his father’s technical know-how created the perfect foundation for DeMir Homes’ success. As Ernad explains, he founded the business after years of working in sales. “As part of my job, I became very familiar with working with all kinds of people. I was able to evaluate which materials were most effective depending on the type of building, the environment, and the budget. I understood the pros and cons of different resources and was always at the forefront of any new innovations in the market.
“I possessed a lot of knowledge when it came to the tools of the trade, but my father really brought the hands-on experience. He’s owned his own tile company since 2004, and I worked alongside him for some of that time. Being around him on construction sites, I was able to directly learn a lot about the processes, and together we were able to build something special.
“Our experience meant that we were familiar with the construction industry from the very beginning. We were both used to working with builders and craftspeople and understood the demands of the job. Because of that, we were able to avoid a lot of the challenges people often face when they’re first starting out,” Ernad reveals.
Architectural details
Today, DeMir Homes takes on a range of exciting projects, all showcasing the diverse capabilities of its leadership team. With the harsh Iowa winter fast approaching, Ernad and his colleagues are developing innovative indoor leisure spaces and smart home features to create cozy seasonal retreats for their clients. As he details: “We’re seeing a lot of demand for more interactive indoor spaces and advanced heating systems as we enter the colder months. People are looking to create their own private ecosystem, somewhere to hide away from the conditions outside. 
“One of our current projects includes an indoor pool. The design is really exceptional, and it’s a new challenge for us as a business. Once that project is complete, we have another client asking for a very similar layout. I think it’s a great opportunity to develop our skill set and offer something unique.
“We’re also looking to incorporate more automated elements into our designs. For example, we can install systems that allow clients to remotely manage their heating, lighting, and water from their phone. Technology like this offers a quality-of-life boost, which can make a huge difference when people are spending a lot of time in their home.”
The company invests in architectural details to ensure each custom home is a sanctuary for all seasons. As Ernad enthuses: “Through strategic window placement and meticulous design, we can cultivate long-lasting natural light. You can see this in one of our most recent projects, which features a set of gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows.
“This client had a clear concept of what they wanted their home to feel like, even down to the smallest details. We worked together closely for about nine months – perfecting every aspect of the design.
“We settled on some bespoke Zola windows, which were built in Poland and shipped here to the US. They are framed with custom-built paneling from Canada, and the whole structure came together beautifully. We’re proud of how it turned out – everything in its place, perfectly livable, and seamlessly composed.”
Bolstered by recent successes and decades of experience, DeMir Homes shoots for the stars. The company has an exciting future ahead of it, as Ernad concludes: “We’re dreaming big. Each year the company improves, not only through growth but through experience and expertise. We’re building one-of-a-kind homes and have found our niche in the market. Now, the sky’s the limit.
