From historic renovations to coastal homes, Steve Cury Construction delivers luxury across Palm Beach
As a luxury custom homebuilder in the Palm Beach, Florida, area, Steve Cury Construction is committed to delivering superior homes on time and at competitive pricing. Stephen Cury, a second-generation luxury custom homebuilder and licensed general contractor, leads the business, bringing in over two decades of expertise in construction and real estate development.
Originally known as SEC Construction & Development, Steve Cury Construction was founded in 2003 with a vision to deliver boutique residences and spec homes in prestigious waterfront communities. Offering full-service solutions like luxury renovations, home additions, and custom new builds, Steve Cury Construction seamlessly combines meticulous project management, exceptional craftsmanship, and client-first service.
Stephen joins us to elaborate on the company’s evolution over the last 22 years, but first he discusses his own journey into the homebuilding industry. “My father was a builder and developer, and I started working for him during the summers at the age of 12,” Stephen opens. “After college, I worked in the construction sector on Palm Beach Island for ten years before starting my own business in early 2003. I was mainly working on historic home renovations in the early days, as well as a few townhomes in the historical areas of West Palm Beach, such as Flamingo Park and ‘SoSo’ before it really grew into the luxury coastal community it is today.

“I eventually transitioned into building new custom homes, and I take a hands-on approach to all our homes, working directly with the owners and architects on every project. Today, we provide design and build services, and full general contracting services for new custom homes, renovations, and additions, as well as providing consulting services for select clients and owners.”
Quality runs through the core of Steve Cury Construction, exemplified by its ‘pillars of excellence’: meticulous attention to detail, exceptional client service and communication, partnering with top-tier subcontractors and sourcing premium materials, and an unwavering dedication to client satisfaction.
“We take an integrated approach to the design-build method, and many of our projects have a builder, designer and architect working together simultaneously to avoid potential issues,” Stephen explains. “Many structural and mechanical elements are thoughtfully planned in advance, but we also remain hands-on throughout the build, making real-time design adjustments on site to ensure our clients get exactly what they envisioned. This collaborative approach consistently results in a superior final product. While some builders cut corners to reduce costs, we take a different path. We’re committed to using high-quality materials and honoring the architectural integrity of each home, staying true to the unique design details that make it one-of-a-kind.”
Turning to projects, Stephen is keen to highlight some of the recent homes built by the team. “The Summa Street residence presented a unique design challenge: seamlessly integrating a new addition with an existing structure while preserving the illusion of a unified front façade,” he explains. “The architect’s thoughtful design laid the groundwork, and on site, we made strategic field decisions like vaulting the roof and elevating previously low walls, to achieve consistent ten-foot ceilings throughout. These interventions transformed the spatial experience, making the home feel entirely new. The result is a harmonious blend of modern refinement and classical island colonial detailing, which lends the home a distinct character. Delivering this one-of-a-kind residence for such wonderful clients was both a creative and deeply rewarding experience.
“We also recently completed a developer build project, which is a historic home at 317 Greymon Road in West Palm Beach. This was a challenging historic rebuild to ensure the new elements of the home aligned with the existing structure from 1920. The new area spans just over 4000 square feet, and this home will hit the market soon at around $5 million.
“During Covid, we experienced tremendous growth, and one of my favorite projects, 241 Almeria Road in the historic El Cid district of West Palm Beach, was built during the pandemic,” Stephen reflects. “Many of our suppliers had closed or were facing delayed deliveries and even certain employees or subcontractors were unable to work full-time. It was a challenging time, but we all rolled up our sleeves and worked harder to ultimately increase our efficiency with less resources.”

Towards the end of our conversation, Stephen turns his attention to what’s next for both the business specifically and the wider market. “We’re seeing increased demand for smaller, new custom homes and renovations, as many of our clients are looking to renovate their existing homes as they have low interest rates and no plans to move,” he suggests. “As inflation and tariffs continue to drive higher construction costs, clients will want to do more with less. However, I think Florida will always be a great place for second home buyers and owners; the weather and lifestyle are unrivaled, and the West Palm Beach area has a lot to offer buyers from the Northeast.
“With some projects getting closer to completion and a few new ones started, we’re aiming to finish the year and final quarter in a strong position. It’s a non-stop ride growing the business and creating lifelong relationships with our clients, but I am truly enjoying every minute.
“We have recently begun looking to acquire our own raw lot properties that would need to be developed and built out,” Stephen concludes. “In general, we are hoping the overall real estate market picks up and interest rates drop soon, so it will be interesting how the market will react over the next few years. Overall, I hope to keep growing our construction business and continue to work with amazing people and clients.”
