From floor plans to dream designs, Solitude Homes crafts award-winning homes

Based in Idaho, Solitude Homes (Solitude) crafts legacies in the form of award-winning custom homes that seamlessly combine timeless design with modern comfort. From breathtaking mountain retreats to elegant farmhouse-inspired estates, Solitude strives to create homes that reflect the inhabitants’ design preferences and lifestyle.

As one of the top custom home builders and having been recognized in multiple Parade of Homes shows, Solitude has earned a strong reputation across the areas in which it works, which include Eagle, Meridian, and Boise. The company emphasizes collaboration between its team and the client to ensure there are no financial surprises or wasted costs, and that the layout, features, and finishes truly cater to the client’s lifestyle. a wide-angle photograph of a spacious, modern, open-concept living room with a kitchen in the background

Cody Weight, President, established the business in 2007 and has since led Solitude through both prosperous and challenging times, including the housing recession and Covid-19 pandemic. Earning both local and national recognition, Cody is clearly passionate about what he does, and we’re privileged to sit down with him to learn more about the business and its approach to homebuilding.

“My dad was a subcontractor, so I grew up around construction, and I always knew that I wanted to be a builder from a young age,” Cody opens. “After working for a construction company as a project manager, I created Solitude in 2007 and although it was a difficult time to start a homebuilding business, I managed to build a few custom homes during my first year by leveraging existing relationships. As the market picked up, we built more custom homes and eventually entered a Parade of Homes event where we won several awards.

“These awards put us on the map as a custom home builder, and we started to build strong relationships with local real estate agents. We maintained our focus on custom plan designs, with our entire process and team built around working with clients to help them develop, design, and build their dream home.

“What’s unique about Solitude is that we build custom homes varying from 1900 square feet to 11,000 square feet, and we’ve built homes on foothills with daylight basements as well as large, two-story homes with full-size basketball courts,” he shares. “We have designed and built every style and type of home, from modern architecture to Scandinavian styles. We’re not afraid of a challenge; we recently built a home for a client with an RV within a community that didn’t allow RV bays, so with community approval, we built a hanger door on hydraulics made from stucco and stone to hide the RV inside.”

Elaborating on the process behind each custom home, Cody continues: “Clients first meet with me, where I discover what they’re looking for and make sure we’re the right fit to accomplish their plans in terms of both design and budget. Direct contact with me is something our clients love, as they can tap into my knowledge and experience. Once we’re aligned, planning can begin, and we mold a floor plan based on each client’s lifestyle and budget, making sure there’s no wasted square footage. Our floor plans typically include tall ceilings and doors, custom woodwork, and innovative details, and we often suggest ideas to clients that they didn’t even know they needed or wanted.

Most of our customers want high-end appliances and detailed finishes, so many of our finishes are already upgraded versions as standard. In today’s world, clients are looking to build energy efficient homes with good insulation and robust HVAC systems, using top-quality products that will last generations.

“We price everything for our clients to ensure they fully understand what they’re getting for their money before they sign a contract,” he adds. “The build contract is then signed, and permits are applied for, and then clients are assigned to a construction manager to manage schedules, timelines, and communication. Across the team, we pride ourselves on thorough and honest communication with our clients to keep them informed through every step of the process.”

With a commitment to design innovation, Solitude is constantly staying ahead of changing trends and preferences across the market. “Industry trends tend to be based on colors, textures, and architectural design, and we’re seeing a continuation of farmhouse-style homes, as well as warmer colors and textures like natural woods,” Cody says. “We try to stay ahead of these trends, and we often play a role in setting trends by continuing to push the envelope in design and architectural style through new designs, fresh ideas, and creative floor plans.”

Aside from trends, Cody shares why Solitude is investing in technology to further enhance its client relationships. “We’re continuing to invest in our construction management software, which allows us to store documents, information, and communication in one location,” he confirms. “This not only benefits us, but also clients, as they can quickly access what they need in a detailed and organized software program.”

As a custom home builder focusing on innovative designs and transparent communication, Solitude is redefining what it means to build a unique home in the Boise, Idaho region. “We’ve earned a reputation as one of the top custom home builders in the Boise area, and we feel comfortable with the amount and type of homes we’re building,” Cody concludes. “Our focus for the future is to maintain the quality people expect when working with us, as well as attracting new clients. By concentrating on affordability, design, and quality, we believe that we can continue to exceed expectations for people looking to build their dream home.”
