Falcon Crest Homes redefines luxury in the mountains

As Falcon Crest Homes (Falcon Crest) approaches its 25th anniversary, Founder Mark Burgess reflects on the company’s remarkable journey: “Originally from New Zealand, I moved to the U.S. to establish the company. We started with smaller homes in the Salt Lake Valley, but in 2008, an opportunity to build larger residences behind the capital allowed us to establish our reputation. From there, I transitioned to Park City, where we began crafting bespoke luxury homes – many of which have since become iconic mountainside properties.”

Today, Falcon Crest remains an exclusive boutique firm, with a dedicated team of fifteen focusing on delivering highly personalized client experiences. “Our clients are our greatest asset,” Mark explains. “We’ve built multiple homes for some of these clients, simply because they loved the process so much. It’s a privilege to create residences that seamlessly blend architectural excellence with the natural beauty of the landscape.”

Signature style

Falcon Crest’s aesthetic has undergone a remarkable evolution over the years. “In the early 2000s, we favored the Tuscan style. However, as trends evolved, we embraced contemporary architecture. By the time we transitioned to Park City, our signature style had shifted to mountain contemporary – defined by clean lines, and a harmonious blend of steel, timber, and stone. This architectural approach not only enhances the natural surroundings but also ensures a timeless elegance. I truly feel most at home designing in this space.”

In a highly competitive luxury market, Falcon Crest has distinguished itself through an impeccable reputation. “Much of our success stems from word of mouth,” Mark says. “We primarily build in gated communities where potential clients see our work firsthand. Additionally, we’ve fostered strong relationships with top architects and designers, who trust us to bring their visions to life. This reputation has been instrumental in our success over the past decade.”

One particular project, the ‘Purple Sage’ residence, marked a turning point for Falcon Crest. “When the client decided to sell, the home garnered immense interest. Prospective buyers were able to experience the superior craftsmanship firsthand, and as a result, I received numerous inquiries. This project was especially unique as it was one of Park City’s first flat-roofed home – a rarity due to the heavy snowfall. Engineering a structure capable of supporting multiple feet of snow and ice was a challenge. The finished home, complete with a 450-foot driveway, remains one of our most celebrated builds.”

Outstanding projects

Falcon Crest is renowned for its ability to bring ambitious projects to life while maintaining a seamless client experience. Mark recounts an especially unique build completed almost entirely via remote communication. “One of our clients had to be overseas for most of the construction process. We handled major design decisions over FaceTime, ensuring every detail met their expectations. One notable moment was when the kitchen’s Caesarstone countertops had already been installed, and the client decided to replace them with Calcutta Gold marble to match the island. It was a significant change, but our philosophy is to deliver exactly what the client envisions, regardless of the challenge.”

Another standout project is a 13,000-square-foot estate in The Colony, designed during the height of the pandemic. “We faced logistical hurdles, including steel and concrete shortages, but we adapted and delivered a spectacular home. This residence embodies mountain contemporary living, offering an extraordinary flow of space that accommodates both privacy and grand entertaining. With room for up to 22 guests, it is designed for both comfort and function.”

Exciting future

A defining feature of this property is its unparalleled ski-in, ski-out access. “We designed a dedicated ski lounge, complete with custom gear lockers. Homeowners can simply step outside, glide onto the slopes, and return to the warmth of a fireside retreat. It’s the epitome of luxurious mountain living.” Designed by the esteemed architect Michael Upwall and featuring interiors by Anne Marie Barton, this project showcases the best of Park City design excellence.

Strong relationships with architects and designers are central to Falcon Crest’s success. “Architects appreciate that I don’t require constant oversight. I understand their vision and ensure it is meticulously executed. That trust leads to ongoing collaborations, where they recommend us to their most discerning clients. It’s an incredibly symbiotic relationship.”

Looking ahead, Falcon Crest is preparing to embark on one of its most ambitious projects yet. “A client recently purchased the most expensive and expansive lot in The Colony – perched atop the mountain with breathtaking views. With its own private road and unparalleled surroundings, this will be one of the most spectacular homes we’ve ever built.”

As Falcon Crest Homes continues to shape the landscape of luxury mountain living, Modern Home Builders eagerly anticipates the evolution of this extraordinary site and future landmark projects from this exceptional homebuilder.
