Equipped with 40 years of industry expertise, Longitude Construction brings bespoke luxury homes to Florida’s 30A coastline
Situated in the sun-soaked Florida Panhandle, Longitude Construction is redefining beachside luxury. The company was founded just four years ago by Steven Kueny and Jim Boykin – two passionate professionals with a wealth of experience within the construction industry – but has already grown to be a key pillar in Florida’s luxury homebuilding sphere. Blending quality, artistry and the individualities of every client, Longitude Construction’s homes stand as architectural icons along the idyllic 30A highway, facing out towards the scenic Gulf of America. Above all else, however, Longitude Construction is committed to being client-centric, championing its customers’ values above all else and delivering homes with exceptional craftsmanship.
With next year marking the company’s five-year anniversary, Modern Home Builders sits down with Steven Kueny, Co-Owner of Longitude Construction, to learn more about the business’ background and current projects.
“We’re a residential homebuilder located in Destin, Florida, building luxury homes on the scenic 30A stretch,” Steven begins, offering an introduction to the business. “My partner, Jim Boykin, and I originally started Longitude Construction because the luxury home builder we were working for sold his business. Instead of working with the new ownership, we decided it was within our best interest to split off and start Longitude Construction. Since then, we’ve partnered with several investors to build spec and luxury custom homes. It’s still a young business, but we believe that the reason why we have already had such good success is the attention we give to our clients and the level of care we put into each project.”
Beauty and functionality
With both Steven and Jim encompassing over four decades of combined industry experience, Longitude Construction offers the full package. From the initial design conception through to the construction and finishing, the company keeps its clients close to its core throughout the entire process so that the end product truly is a dream home. Steven shares insight into two of Longitude Construction’s recent projects.
“One project that we’re currently working on is Southern Cross Lane, which is based in an up-and-coming neighborhood called Watersound Camp Creek,” he says. “It’s tied to the golf course and amenities center, so it’s very attractive to new buyers coming into the area. My wife actually designed all of the interiors on this project. It’s a 6,650 square foot home right on a pond, with six bedrooms and a beautiful kitchen and backyard. It took us 14 months to build, and it’s currently listed for $6.2 million.
“In addition, we’re also building a 10,600 square foot house in Seagrove, which is next to Seaside where The Truman Show was shot. It’s a very popular area; the house is on the beach and is going to be listed for around $29 million when it’s done. It’s going to be one of the top, if not the highest selling property on 30A; we’re trying to set a record here.”
Balancing beauty with functionality, Longitude Construction also offers a multitude of technologies and automations to build a home that’s fit for the future. Whether it’s lighting and temperature that can be controlled with a single touch or hidden speakers and screens, these exciting features give Longitude Construction’s homes an extra special, luxurious touch.
“One of the things we often do in our houses – which we’re also doing in our Seagrove beach house – is pre-wire for all the electronic components in the house, such as speakers in the ceilings and Wi-Fi access points. As far as smart technology goes, we have keypads throughout the house where you can turn on specific lights, control the brightness, set the mood, open and close the drapes, etcetera; you can also operate all of this from your phone,” Steven explains. “In addition, as our home is located along scenic highway 30A, the master bedroom overlooks the Gulf of America and is surrounded by windows. Because of that, we’re installing a hidden TV that drop down from the ceiling, so that it does not get in the way of the view.”
Hand-selected trades
Of course, great trade partnerships are the key to going the extra mile. Longitude Construction prioritizes its working relationships, which has been key to unlocking success throughout its first four years.
Steven elaborates: “We have great working relationships with our trades. We’ve hand-selected each one over the years, so we know the quality of their work. They also understand how we operate and what our end product needs to look like. One of my top trades, Jose Castillo, has been in construction himself for 30 years and has tremendous crews; we work closely with him. We also work closely with our pool company, of which I’m a part owner, because we install custom pools on almost every house that we build.”
By upholding its high standards, impeccable quality and continuous strive for excellence, it’s clear that Longitude Construction is positioned for a bright future. The company is poised for further growth, looking at new investment deals for 2026 and beyond. Whatever the future holds for Longitude Construction, however, one thing will always remain certain, and that is its unwavering passion for turning homebuilding dreams into reality, creating real luxury for more families in Florida year upon year.
