Dive into Teal Point Custom Homes’ history of passion, partnership, and expansion At Teal Point Custom Homes, building a home is all about transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. By combining northwest regional architectural style with contemporary living spaces and time-honored craftsmanship, the company creates exquisite custom homes that reflect each client’s unique vision. Drawing on years of experience and proven home designs, the Teal Point team collaborates closely with architects and homeowners to craft spaces that are uniquely theirs. “Founded in 2002, Teal Point was named after a special location in Washington where the view stretches across both Oregon and Idaho,” Wynne DeLozier, Co-owner of Teal Point Custom Homes, begins. “My grandfather had a cabin in that spot, where me and my family spent a lot of time enjoying the summers growing up. In 2002, I met my business partner Chomo Santana, who is now Co-owner of Teal Point. At the time, he was developing a property next to my home in Oregon City. Bonding over our shared passions for construction, golf, and fishing, we quickly became close friends. In those early days, I was building spec homes primarily on property that Chomo was developing. We were also constructing custom homes for ourselves every few years and became obsessed with the process of refining our techniques and incorporating innovative approaches. When the 2008 banking crisis hit, Chomo and I were in good standing with all the lenders, which positioned us perfectly to fill the growing need for qualified custom home builders. For two construction enthusiasts like us, partnering to form Teal Point Custom Homes was a no-brainer and a dream come true,” he elaborates. Exteriora that make a statement while seamlessly integrating with their surroundings Reminiscing on his journey in the homebuilding sector, Wynne shares how he became involved in the industry and how he has seen the real estate market evolve over time. “I began my construction career in 1994 at the age of 22. By 1997, I had started my own company and never looked back. I have a deep love for the construction industry as it has brought so much to my life. It is through this industry that I met my amazing wife and Chomo, who is not only my business partner but also my best friend and the godfather to one of my daughters. There are so many great people and opportunities in our field that there is nothing else I would rather do. During my time in homebuilding, I have observed Portland’s real estate market shift continuously, mostly due to policy and regulatory changes. These are areas where I believe Chomo and I excel. Although other companies may build quality homes, they often fall short in navigating municipal processes, especially when it comes to land use itself,” he highlights. Eye for detail Thanks to its appreciation for the homebuilding process and unparalleled know-how, Teal Point has implemented an efficient approach to ensuring a seamless and positive customer experience. “Acutely aware that the last thing a client wants is surprises, we make sure that every detail is thoroughly vetted before we ever enter into a contract with any customer. Unexpected costs can make for a difficult project, which is why it is crucial for us to do everything in our power to prevent them. Moreover, we interview our clients at the same time as they interview us, because it is essential that both parties feel they are mutually aligned. Equally important to us is having a connection with the client and truly feeling that they want to be involved in the process. Chomo and I have developed countless properties and built many homes over the years, and we can still discuss each one in detail – that is how important they all are to us,” Wynne adds. Work ethic After experiencing significant success in Oregon, Teal Point embarked on a new adventure by offering its homebuilding services in an additional state. “Four years ago, we expanded our operations into the Boise, Idaho market. As a company, it was the best decision we ever made, and with the pandemic, our timing could not have been better. Ever since the lockdowns, the Boise market has been extremely active, in my opinion due to the sense of freedom people feel there. One thing that surprised me about our expansion was how well we were received. Many of the people we work with in Boise were previously in Oregon, so they already knew about our company and wanted to partner with us. This, along with Idahoans simply being good people in general, made the transition come together seamlessly.” Its expansion into Idaho is a promising move for Teal Point, building anticipation for the bright future ahead. “In five years, I would like to see the company grow by continuing to operate like we have always done and to work with good people. Friendship aside, the reason my partnership with Chomo works so well is that we respect each other’s work ethic. We will always put in as much time as it takes to ensure the company thrives and that the people we work with (and for) are taken care of,” Wynne concludes. With a deep passion for homebuilding and craftsmanship, Teal Point is poised to continue building exceptional homes across Oregon and Idaho. www.tealpointcustomhomes.com 30 April 202529 April 2025 Iain 139, Architecture, Contemporary, Teal Point Custom Homes, Wynne DeLozier 5 min read Custom buildingInsights
