Discover how Couloir Construction merges a clients vision to create a stunning custom home
Driven by exceptional craftsmanship and inspired by the beauty of Jackson Hole, Couloir Construction (Couloir) creates meaningful spaces that reflect both the vision and lifestyle of its clients. By blending expert craftsmanship with clear communication, the company is dedicated to building homes that are as timeless as they are inspiring. Jesse Roy, Owner, offers a detailed account of Couloir’s evolution within the home building market of Jackson, Wyoming.
Exceptional results

“Before founding Couloir in 2007, I had a background in structural engineering and years of experience as a builder. I initially focused on the small, niche market of high-touch, high-connectivity remodels. As this model proved successful, we expanded both the number of projects we took on and our team, leading us to our current capacity. In our early days, we started with just me and a couple of carpenters completing remodels and additions, which we identified as a sustainable niche within the market. As we grew, we refined our management style and services, allowing our team to effectively coordinate and manage projects while enabling Couloir to scale significantly. Transitioning from remodels and additions, we ventured into custom single-family residential projects, sporadically engaging in speculative building along the way. Through this focus, we have been able to work with great clients and produce exceptional results,” he opens.
Today, Couloir is a medium-sized construction firm based in Jackson, Wyoming, specializing primarily in custom residential projects, with some commercial work as well. Consequently, the company is presented with many opportunities to undertake well-funded projects that are inherently unique and fun to build. While Couloir mostly focuses on single-family custom homes, the size of its projects ranges from a few thousand square feet to around 10,000 square feet. Through this versatile approach, the company accommodates a diverse spectrum of budgets based on clients’ preferences.
Building for the future
However, versatility is not the only factor that empowers Couloir to stand out from other home builders in the area, as Jesse explains. “I believe our uniqueness lies in our team, and our management style. We can scale our managment to meet the projects needs without being overly redundant but making sure the necessary communication has happened. Times have changed in the nearly 20 years we have been working in the area, and we have evolved significantly. We bring a great deal of enthusiasm to our projects and are committed to building for the future by ensuring the longevity of our contributions to our community. Moreover, our attention to detail further sets us apart. We understand that we are only as good as our last project, and sacrificing quality is never an option. Our goal is to finish each project with a happy and satisfied client, knowing that at the end of the day, we have done our best with our own resources to create something special and unique that will stand the test of time. Ultimately, we aim to build for the future, ensuring our products and installations maintain their integrity without fail,” he says.

Couloir embraces this detail- and quality-focused approach across every home it builds. As an example of the company’s expertise, Jesse goes on to discuss a project currently under construction that highlights its attention to detail. “Generally, we have four-to-six projects going at the same time, continuously moving between starting new homes and finishing ongoing ones. It is worth noting that it usually takes us between one-and-a-half to two years to complete a project. At the moment, we are working on a unique home that we hope to finish soon. In this case, we were brought in later in the process after the architect and homeowner had made their initial decisions. The homeowner selected an architect and provided a timber kit from Canada. When we went through the process of helping estimate the project and determining the finishes, we found that many details were not clearly defined. This allowed us to contribute significantly with ideas for finishes and intricate details. The house spans approximately 5000 square feet and is shaping up to be an exceptional project, filled with a high level of detail.
Thoughtful details
“It features a mechanical system that includes in-floor heating, a dual heating system, and a Tesla solar-powered roof. The two-story design showcases Shou Sugi Ban siding, a charred wood finish that adds a distinctive touch. We have also prioritized exceptional attention to lighting details throughout. Indeed, we find that lighting can be highly beneficial to accents. For the main stairs, we have included a single stringer stair system featuring a glass guardrail and integrated lighting within each stair tread, which lights the way while accentuating the entrance in a somewhat concealed fashion. This design element makes a great statement in the entry to the home and is one of the aspects I found most interesting within that project. There is also a prominent curtain wall that includes a large pivot front door, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the home,” he describes.
Couloir’s commitment to thoughtful details and client satisfaction positions it as a leading force in the custom residential market, with projects that stand out for their uniqueness and durability.
