Discover how B&B Builders is transforming Idaho’s luxury custom homebuilding landscape with a client-first mindset
Since its inception in 1993, B&B Builders (B&B) has been dedicated to crafting beautiful custom homes and commercial properties across Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Utah. Today, the family-owned and operated business continues to design and build some of the most sought-after luxury custom homes in Southeast Idaho. At its core, B&B focuses on three main goals for every project: delivering excellent service that exceeds client expectations, upholding rigorous quality standards through superior craftsmanship and attention to detail, and maintaining its stellar reputation by ensuring complete client satisfaction. To learn more about the company’s processes and approach to homebuilding, we turn to Ben Johnson, Owner of B&B.

One-stop approach
“Since 1997, we have regularly participated in the Parade of Homes and won numerous awards over the years for creative design and quality construction. As members of the Homebuilders Association, we stand as the nation’s leading advocate for small and independent business owners across the country. Every day, we strive to meet the needs of our clients. At the beginning of each project’s building process, we meet with homeowners to prepare a budget that aligns with their goals, needs, and lifestyle. Through regular job site meetings and electronic communication, we ensure that homeowners, project managers, and other team leaders remain focused on the key steps of construction. By leveraging our network, which encompasses some of the most talented designers, architects, and skilled subcontractors in the area, we provide a comprehensive one-stop approach to designing, building, and furnishing luxury homes. Instead of having to limit their choices on fixtures to just a few select items, our clients enjoy the freedom to customize every aspect of their home down to the last detail,” he opens.
When they come to B&B, homeowners can trust that their specific vision will be realized in every detail of their new home. Ben and his brother Brent, who serves as President, established the company with a clear mission in mind: to create a positive construction experience that reflects the way they would like to be treated if it was their own home under construction. As a result, integrity, quality, service and communication are the building blocks behind B&B’s stellar reputation in the home construction community. “While building beautiful homes is what we do every day, we understand that for each homeowner, this is the only home that truly matters,” Ben adds.
Customer service
Specializing in luxury custom homes, B&B serves a diverse client base with a wide range of preferences and needs. As such, projects can vary in value from $1 million to more than $10 million, giving the company the opportunity to create unique and exciting homes with each endeavor. Additionally, B&B undertakes select commercial projects where custom design and quality are important factors for the client. Over the years, customer demands and overall industry trends have evolved significantly. More specifically, the pandemic marked a major turning point for B&B, as demand for custom homes notably increased since then. “The reason why demand has surged so much in the last few years is because the desirable Idaho lifestyle is no longer a secret. During the pandemic, many people relocating from other states expressed a strong desire to settle in a state or area with a smaller government and greater personal freedoms,” Ben enlightens.

Strong customer service is the common thread that runs through every B&B project, regardless of size. Ben sheds light on some of the company’s recent builds and how the B&B team ensures customer satisfaction at every step of the construction process. “Some of our most notable recent projects include Gem Lake Harbor, Swan Valley Meadows, and Tower Point, each boasting unique features. For instance, Gem Lake Harbor has a phenomenal kitchen and dining area, while Swan Valley Meadows offers a one-of-a-kind great room and kitchen with mountain views overlooking a pond. Similarly, Tower Point is set in a wonderful mountain landscape with stunning views from the great room. Across all our projects, we prioritize customer service to deliver a positive and seamless homebuilding experience for clients. A crucial aspect of this is our strong focus on communication. Equally important, and often the hardest part of our job, is identifying what the client desires most. No two clients are the same, and each has a unique list of wants and needs. Recognizing these preferences early on makes our job that much easier.”
B&B’s emphasis on communication fosters positive relationships not only with customers but also with suppliers and vendors. A common commitment to high-quality products, excellent service, craftsmanship and loyalty plays a significant part in establishing longstanding partnerships. For B&B, developing and maintaining these relationships is paramount and requires consistent communication and time investment. Maintaining strong industry relationships also empowers the company to navigate persisting challenges such as labor shortages. “In addition to providing additional benefits and higher wages to our employees to promote retention, we are getting more involved with local schools. By doing so, we aim to foster relationships that encourage students with an interest in construction to view it as a positive career choice,” Ben comments.
2026 is off to a promising start for B&B, with several unique projects lined up that have the potential to make it a record-setting year. Looking further afield, the company anticipates continued growth. “It is important for us that this growth is controlled and never exceeds what we can manage effectively,” Ben concludes. “Often, we are six-to-12 months out on new projects, and we expect that trend to continue. Additionally, we are in the process of transitioning leadership to the next generation of our family.”
