Committed to quality, owner Patrick Maley drives success for Maley Building Corporation
For more than four decades, Maley Building Corporation (MBC) has delivered luxury homebuilding services across the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado, spanning from Aspen to Carbondale. As one of the most respected builders on Colorado’s western slope, clients can be sure their home will be expertly crafted with direct involvement from owner Patrick Maley.
Having grown up in the construction industry, Patrick learned the custom home building process by working alongside his father and founded MBC to continue his family’s legacy. Priding himself on direct attention and input in each project, Patrick brings a no-nonsense work ethic and an unwavering commitment to excellence to every project. The small, dedicated team prioritizes being responsive, thoughtful, and precise to ensure that every detail is carefully considered regardless of whether a client is local or overseeing the project from across the country.
Considering the Roaring Fork Valley’s varied topography, MBC has completed a wide range of high-end custom homes in Aspen, Snowmass Village, Basalt, and Missouri Heights since its inception. From cantilevered houses on rocky hillsides to sprawling riverside ranch properties, the business collaborates with clients to build homes that turn clients’ visions into reality.
“My background in construction began at a very early age, and I’ve already been involved in the local industry for over 40 years,” Patrick begins. “Our niche is highly customized single-family homes, most of which are either riverfront or mountain-view properties, but we also embark on the occasional multi-family project if the opportunity suits.
“All of our projects require some elements of design, and we can help clients hire architects and designers that can match their requirements. We like to get involved early in the process to ensure we’re aware of design preferences and lifestyle requirements from the beginning. We typically spend anywhere between one and two years on planning and permitting, and up to two years to build the home.”
Turning to projects, Patrick is keen to tell us about some recently completed homes that showcase the best of MBC’s capabilities. “We worked on an unusual project for a client who wanted to redevelop an original 1960s fishing cabin on the Frying Pan River,” he explains. “As the cabin had been added to on three separate occasions, it was a mismatch of styles and there were several permitting limitations requiring it to remain within its existing footprint. After 18 months of permitting negotiations, the owner’s design team, made up of architects, land planners, landscape architects, and civil engineers, was able to get the project approved.
“The client intended to keep and remodel the original cabin, but we were forced to change plans as we discovered that the foundation of the cabin was cracked in several places. We reviewed the options with the client and eventually decided to replace the cabin rather than repair the foundations due to the condition.
“Despite early unforeseen changes, the remodeling and rebuilding process was somewhat straightforward, and the cabin is now complete with new wiring, heating, insulation, and windows. We’ve also installed solar and storage batteries to ensure the home is not only energy efficient today, but suitable for renewable power moving forward.”
Project highlights
Patrick next highlights a renovation project in Snowmass Creek that also came with unique challenges. “This project was a 2500-square-foot addition to a large existing riverfront property,” he says. “This required extensive excavation, stabilization, soil nailing, temporary shoring, and even underpinning of the existing foundations. It was an elaborate project to get started and we also made changes to the existing home from an energy perspective.
“We worked with energy consultants to analyze the existing systems and make positive changes. By adding new insulation, installing highly efficient heating and cooling appliances, and adding extensive solar and battery storage, we’ve dramatically increased the energy ratings to create a much more sustainable home.
“In terms of current construction, we’re working on a new single-family home situated within a ten-acre estate on the Roaring Fork River,” Patrick reveals. “We’re around halfway through the project, which comprises a 6000-square-foot home and a detached caretaker apartment.
“Near to this river project in a very similar setting, we recently finished a family’s 15-acre compound with their single level home with a detached barn with an upper level accessory dwelling. The property commanded extensive landscaping including construction of a one-acre pond, accounting for a thousand diverse details.”
Prosperous future
Although the business has grown significantly in recent years, MBC has retained its small company ethos. “We enjoy spending time with each of our clients to understand what they’re looking for in terms of design and lifestyle,” Patrick shares. “Aside from design, the team works together throughout the construction and post-construction phases to ensure we’re always exceeding client expectations. Everyone on the team has the same philosophy of providing value and quality, delivering lasting homes to happy clients and owners.
“This reputation extends across the homebuilding community, as we’ve established great relationships with several architects, designers, local real estate brokers, and even insurance companies. Our work comes from many different sources, and we leverage our strong network of subcontractors and suppliers, some of which we’ve worked with for decades.”
As our conversation ends, talk turns to MBC’s future and ongoing success, which is sure to continue under Patrick’s leadership. “2025 is already fully booked, and we’re in communication with several clients for 2026 projects,” he concludes. “The business tends to grow considerably every five years or so, and I’m confident we will continue on this path. We have many exceptional players on our team, including some young up-and-coming individuals who are learning how to manage both projects and people, so that we can create a succession plan for the company’s next generation.”
