Camerio Builders redefines home with innovation, accessibility, and heart

Since its establishment in 2009, Camerio Builders (Camerio) has been dedicated to taking adapted housing to the next level. The company is driven by a desire to improve the lives of its clients by providing beautiful custom living arrangements perfectly tailored to their unique lifestyles. President Travis Camerio, who founded Camerio Builders Inc., shares exclusive insights into his background within the home building industry.

“I believe that a person must have it in their blood to survive in this industry. My father was a developer and track home builder for over 45 years, so I grew upa contemporary kitchen featuring a two-toned cabinetry design and an open-concept layout immersed in the building industry. I have witnessed many ups and downs in the sector, but the positives outweigh the negatives. Nothing brings me more joy than knowing that my clients’ dearest memories begin with the homes we build and design for them. My father is a quadriplegic; he became paralyzed when he tripped and fell during a game of tennis. This freak accident triggered my entire career as a custom builder and renovator and first ignited my passion for homebuilding. I will never forget the day we brought my father home from the hospital and struggled to get him into the house, especially into the bathroom. We had to think quickly and critically, which changed my perspective on life. This experience transformed the way I approach my work and live my life today. I do not take anything for granted and appreciate everything life has given me, including the tough experiences and hard times,” he expresses.

As a result of this experience, Travis has made it Camerio Builder’s mission to incorporate accessibility features into its homes. Over the years, the company has refined these features and even added new ones to its portfolio. “We are constantly expanding our offerings in this niche of the industry. Every year, new products come out, and it clear and most certain that each client has different requests and perspectives than those I have encountered before. People are looking beyond the usual accessible bathrooms, doorways, and entries; many kitchen designs and added features are now coming out, making kitchens more accessible than ever. Among these features, the new cabinet inserts being integrated into custom cabinets, such as extendable shelves, drawer microwaves, and countertop lighting, particularly stand out to me. But my favorite kitchen feature is the side-swinging oven door, which I plan to install in my next personal home for my family due to its convenience and safety.

“There is also a tremendous amount of low voltage technology being installed in and around homes today. For instance, we installed a significant amount of low-voltage systems in a recent project named the Industrial Modern Farmhouse. These include video and audio surveillance, Wi-Fi lighting, and surround sound throughout every room. Wi-Fi technology has made a huge impact on accessibility and maintaining independence in one’s own home. Additionally, we incorporated other accessible features in the pool, such as a zero-degree entry beach area and self-cleaning features,” Travis describes.

Stand out project

Delving deeper into the specific of the Industrial Modern Farmhouse, Travis reveals some of the house’s distinguishing attributes. “The fixtures and design selections are all modern and industrial, combined with a slight hint of a commercial space. Furthermore, the design encompasses lots of open space, large fixtures, iron accents and white oak wood accents, resulting in a beautiful mix of old and new, reminiscent of a refurbished barn or an old commercial brick building. This floor plan retains the essence of a traditional farmhouse but with large porches, covered verandas, and modern fixtures. Moreover, we redesigned the space to be completely accessible inside and out. Our clients wanted to live the rest of their lives in this house, and they will absolutely be able to do so.

a modern interior hallway featuring a staircase and various architectural elements“In fact, we worked hand-in-hand with the clients to balance both architectural styles and redesign the floor plan. I focused on and gave attention to each individual room while considering the plan as a whole. The final floor plan was a major accomplishment but there were many challenges in maintaining the look and feel of the traditional farmhouse while making the necessary adjustments for accessibility without it being obvious that it was an accessible home. This required careful sacrifices, but the clients had a clear vision, and they worked closely with Heather Wright Camerio, our interior designer at the time. She helped them pick out many of the modern fixtures that gave this home some of the industrial and modern appeal it needed to fit the bill; she truly captured their vision and brought it to life. Once we had a clear understanding of the clients’ vision, every decision became a no-brainer, from the stair handrails to the oversized living room fan. These features all turned this accessible home into an award-winning architectural accomplishment. The Industrial Modern Farmhouse has since been featured on American Dream Network and other platforms for its accessibility aspect, and the design has begun to attract significant attention.”

Family support

Camerio’s clever fusion of accessible features and personalized design redefines the future of custom homes, ensuring accessibility remains a priority for the industry. Drawing on past legacies and previous experiences, Travis finishes by honing in on the company’s most important asset of all.

“I’d like to thank my team, The Dream Team, starting with Peggy Freedman, Garol Orr and Jane Norman. Without them, none of this would’ve been possible and we’ve accomplished so much by working together. I’d also like to say thank you to my family for supporting me throughout, especially this last year: my parents, Dee and Lou Camerio Jr, my fiancé, NiDa Faisal, my son, Travis Camerio IV, and my future daughter, NiHAD Khan. They are my whole world and everything I do, I do for them. I love them more than anything.”
