Altamura Homes combines traditional craftsmanship with modern touches to deliver clients’ dream homes
Working across Fairfield County, Altamura Homes (Altamura) is a luxury homebuilding company that focuses on delivering true craftsmanship. Using the latest construction methods and technologies, the company builds both spec and custom homes, working with clients to design and build their dream home.
Regardless of whether it’s a spec or custom home, Altamura’s core values remain the same: client satisfaction, open and honest communication, quality first, passion, and building a lifestyle. The company aims to provide the highest level of service and is continuously improving its standards, going ‘all out’ to exceed clients’ expectations and carefully address their needs.
It’s inevitable that communication is key to any successful relationship, and Altamura is no exception. Valuing strong partnerships across all areas of the business, the team emphasizes the importance of open and transparent communication with clients, subcontractors, and vendors. Quality is undoubtedly another crucial principle when it comes to homebuilding, and Altamura places quality at the forefront of any decision, believing that this leads to a superior home.
Being passionate is another of the company’s values, as it reflects the team’s genuine excitement and commitment to the process. By embracing this value, the team not only get the job done but have fun whilst doing so. Lastly, Altamura strives to build a lifestyle for its homeowners. While styles, trends, and technologies change, Altamura’s homes are designed to fit the homeowners’ lifestyle needs and desires, particularly when building a custom home.
To learn more about the business and why these values are so important, we’re joined by the owner, Luigi Altamura, who begins by elaborating on the company’s history. “Altamura was established in 2014, and we gained visibility in the market by building and selling spec homes,” he begins. “The process of building without a client allowed me to put my personal touch on the homes we designed and built. We then gained exposure because the homes were seen over the internet and in person by realtors and potential buyers.
“I really went all out to create homes I would be proud to put out there; I remember traveling to Milan, Italy, for Salone Del Mobile, an international leading design expo, and taking hundreds if not thousands of pictures and videos to use as inspiration for our current homes in construction.”
Today, Altamura has evolved into a renowned builder throughout the states of Connecticut and New York. Although the team remains small, Luigi shares why this means clients get a dedicated and personalized service. “Being a small team doesn’t limit our capabilities,” he states. “We work to create a unique atmosphere for our clients and the hundreds of trades people that work with us to create homes.
“I was recently honored to hear a client speaking about us and commenting that ‘Luigi along with Ralph and the rest of the team work in concert from start to finish.’ I like to offer an old school mentality, which stems from my father and my upbringing, combined with the knowledge and know-how of the modern world. I believe the best product and service is delivered when we can blend ‘old school’ techniques with modern trends and preferences.”
When it comes to building custom homes, Altamura works with clients to guide them through each step of the process. The team can help clients to acquire land if required, and customers can either provide Altamura with a design or work with the team’s talented architects to design their home. Throughout the building process, Luigi communicates directly with clients, as well as providing updates and photos via an online portal, which is a great option for clients away from site.
Turning to current projects, Luigi continues: “We’re currently working on an 11,000-square-foot custom home situated within a five-acre plot in New Canaan, Connecticut. We had previously built a home for this client, so we were grateful that they chose us to go on this adventure with them. We’re designing and building the new home from scratch. It’s quite an impressive sprawling property with most of the footprint on the first level, along with features like huge windows, cathedral ceilings, and modern details.
“We’re also working on a project in Mamaroneck, New York,” he adds. “This is a shingle style coastal home, which will have a Western red cedar roof and wall shingles with a series of nested gables, a wraparound front porch, and extensive outdoor space with several terraces and patios.”
Having won several Home Building Industry (HOBI) awards since its inception, we ask Luigi for his reflections on these achievements. “We’d like to thank HOBI for the job they have done and continue to do,” he says. “It’s a great event for the industry in Connecticut, and we are proud to have been recognized with ten HOBI awards since 2017. Consistency and continued improvement from year to year has allowed us to continue to be a part of the awards.”
To end our conversation, Luigi looks to the future. “For 2025, we’ll be fully focused on our projects at hand while having an eye towards the future,” he concludes. “Being awarded or starting projects is only the beginning and is not the accomplishment; successfully completing the projects is the goal and that takes work and dedication. It’s important to constantly look forwards and evolve, but we will do so carefully so that we don’t forget the core we’ve built over the last ten years.”
